A modern day relic using age-old metalworking techniques and adding multiple layers of torch fired enamels to give an ancient feel to this necklace connecting it to nature and the passing of time. Each component of the necklace is hand cut copper. Each individual piece is torch fired with many layers of vitreous enamels. Handmade chain and clasp.
Enameling is the art of fusing glass to metal. Enamel (glass) is crushed to a powder like the consistency of fine sand. This powder is then applied to a metal surface. Then the piece is heated either in a kiln, or my preference, a hand-held torch. More coats, normally different colors, can be applied. Sometimes 10-20 firings are required to bring about the desired results.
